Melanoma Monday, observed annually on the first Monday of May, serves as an important reminder to monitor changes in your skin and prioritize regular screenings. When detected early, melanoma—the most serious form of skin cancer—is highly treatable, making routine screenings a critical part of preventive care.
“Regular skin checks are life-saving,” says Dr. Garcia-Zuazaga, Founder and President of Apex Skin. “Our goal is to provide accessible, expert care while educating our community on the importance of early detection and sun safety. I always tell patients to get their skin checked no matter their age, ethnicity, or any other risk factor.”
As part of this initiative, Apex Skin providers performed skin cancer checks on moles, freckles, and other skin concerns to identify potential warning signs, such as changes in size, shape, or color.
These screenings help determine whether further evaluation or a full-body exam may be needed. With skin cancer affecting approximately one in five Americans in their lifetime, increasing awareness and access to melanoma screening remains an important priority.
Apex Skin hosted free skin cancer screenings across all locations on May 5, 2025, with an additional date of May 7 at the Madison office. The event was open to the community, with appointments encouraged to ensure availability.
While this event has passed, Apex Skin remains committed to helping patients prioritize skin health through regular screenings, education, and access to expert dermatologic care.
Routine screenings are an important step for anyone searching for skin cancer screening near me or looking to stay proactive about changes in their skin.
Apex Skin continues to offer this initiative annually—visit our Melanoma Monday page to learn more about current screening opportunities and how to participate.
