CoolSculpting vs. Weight Loss: A Breakdown Of What to Expect

One of the most common questions we get when it comes to CoolSculpting is if it will help someone lose weight. While CoolSculpting’s results may vary for everyone, we have Kaylee O’Donnell here to help us understand how it can specifically impact weight loss.

Will I lose weight with CS?

CoolSculpting is not a form of weight loss. CoolSculpting is the #1 Nonsurgical fat-reducing treatment.

This means that while CoolSculpting can help rid you of stubborn fat in difficult areas, it should not be used as a means of overall weight loss and oftentimes, best results are had when used in unison with a steady, healthy lifestyle.

How can CS help me achieve my body goals if it doesn’t reduce weight?

CoolSculpting can still help you achieve body goals, even though you may not lose weight. Some would even say it is a form of losing inches rather than losing pounds.

“For example, imagine your abdomen being your area of concern and pretend cotton balls are taped to your abdomen. Now imagine you have completed your full CoolSculpting treatments. Those imaginary cotton balls are no longer there. When you step on a scale, it may read the same number as before, but a percentage of the fat cells or cotton balls are no longer taking up the extra space.”

After our adolescent years, our body stops making new fat cells. We lose/gain weight by our existing fat cells expanding or shrinking.

Once CoolSculpting freezes fat cells, they are excreted naturally through our Lymphatic system and eliminated forever. Our existing fat cells can still shrink or expand, but after CoolSculpting, there are fewer fat cells to expand.

Does weight impact CS results?

CoolSculpting results should be long-term, but a significant weight gain can alter your results.

“The perfect CoolSculpting patient, to me, exercises regularly and has an overall healthy(ish) lifestyle. Daily exercises can include walking, yoga, or cycling. The exercises do not need to be intense to be effective.”

Overall, CoolSculpting will not be reliable if you simply give up a healthy lifestyle that contributes to its results, and continue to add on fat. So any habits or lifestyles that contribute to weight gain will reduce the results of CoolSculpting in the long-term.

What lifestyle habits do you recommend for the best CS results?

“I recommend daily exercise in addition to a healthy(ish) lifestyle. I say healthy(ish) because we all eat unhealthy snacks sometimes. Exercise and diet will always remain to be the best form of weight loss.”

When the stubborn fat does not go away, even with a routine that includes some form of exercise, followed by eating daily fruits and vegetables, that is when I recommend CoolSculpting to aid your overall body goals.

CoolSculpting is overall very safe. CoolSculpting is non-surgical, FDA-cleared in nine areas—under the chin, bra area, upper arm, abdomen, side (flank), back, inner thigh, outer thigh, and underneath the buttocks (banana roll), and there is little to no downtime after a procedure.
