Dr. Jennifer Bahner grew up in Hudson, Ohio before moving with her parents and three brothers to Brighton, Michigan when she was in high school. She studied Movement Science in the Division of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and completed her pre-medical studies, graduating with high distinction. Dr. Bahner deferred medical school for one year to live in Winter Park, Colorado, where she worked as a backpacking trip leader and children’s ski instructor. She returned to the Midwest to matriculate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, as the recipient of an academic fellowship. She found her calling in dermatology during her third year of medical school.

She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at University Hospitals, followed by three years of clinical research in the Department of Dermatology. During her research fellowship, she ran dozens of clinical trials for conditions including psoriasis, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and prurigo nodularis. Dr. Bahner was subsequently offered a dermatology residency position at Case Western Reserve University, where she completed her training and was Chief Resident in her final year. The following year, she completed a Procedural Dermatology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. In this year-long advanced training program, Dr. Bahner performed more than 1,000 Mohs surgery and reconstruction cases, along with hundreds of laser and cosmetic procedures, she guided resident and nurse education, along with tumor board and journal club.

As a Board-certified dermatology fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, Dr. Bahner joined the faculty at UH.
